First, wait for the pipe to be completely cold, then gently pull the stem, in line with its axis, as if it were screwed onto the shank. The best way to do this is to hold the shank with one hand and the stem with the other, positioning your hands close to the joint between the two parts. By following this recommendation, you will not risk damaging your pipes during disassembly. Pipes with a very thick shank are, of course, the most robust.
