I've just finished assembling Mecanigma. I had a lot of fun assembling this magnificent box, its style is absolutely unique and magnificent, and it's a great satisfaction to see the object take shape day after day. A special thank you to Julien and Marjorie, who helped me out when I had questions about the assembly (2 questions in fact, the instructions are very clear overall, even for a model-building novice like me). Bravo for the design of this object!

The puzzle has arrived on about 3 weeks. too long time, I know had some problem in the sending. But the puzzle is very nice.

My grandson is very passionate

First of all, it's a superb product. As you build it, you discover the complexity of the mechanisms involved. It's a totally new experience, unlike other wooden models where you know where you're going. The final object is very rewarding for those who love mechanics. I can just imagine a medieval version, scale one, of such a chest in a castle! As for a few comments, I'd like to say that the light tint chosen lets the plywood layers show through too much. Personally, I preferred a dark oak varnish, for a look similar to that of a chest that had lived near a fireplace and its soot. I also added a lot of glue between the wooden plates to conceal the gaps. As the glue dissolves easily in water, excess glue is removed with a wet brush, then quickly dried with a hair dryer. The result is a one-piece trunk, with no reminder of its plywood-based construction. The same applies to the 3D-printed plastic components. A coat of varnish, darkly tinted, adds credibility. I think it would also be useful to say that an area of one of the wooden plates serves as a spare part in case of loss or breakage. By default, I've picked randomly from the plates. Perhaps I should also indicate when gluing certain parts (on gears and sides of the trunk, for example) to which other parts they will eventually fit. This would ensure that the glue joints are properly aligned for final assembly. Similarly, before varnishing sliding or interlocking parts, it's a good idea to sand them down first and test their fluidity of movement. To improve the look of plastic parts, a quick blow with a lighter removes the matt appearance of the parts on the detached point. Be careful with PLA plastic, however, as it becomes glassy at 60°c. Don't leave the finished trunk inside a car in the sun, as some plastic parts may warp. Finally, there's an error in the direction of drawings 2-32 and 2-33. Drawing 2-22 should also show X5. But frankly, these are details that the young and successful NKD puzzle team will surely improve from version to version.
