I am surprised because you ordered our ippi patchouli a few years ago, then recently kilim, and these are 2 perfumes built around patchouli that have body and character. If they are not intense enough for your taste, feel free to try the pure perfume version, which is even more concentrated and therefore more powerful. But perhaps you were talking about some fragrances from our sample box that you just ordered? In that case, it is true that some of our fragrances are made to be rather discreet and confidential (musk or aloe for example) and others designed to offer a beautiful trail and long-lasting presence. While some are made to be rather discreet and subtle (like musk or aloe for example), others offer a beautiful trail and long-lasting scent. However, it is important to remember that a perfume can react, smell, or last differently from one person to another, as the longevity depends a lot on the skin of the person wearing it. Don't hesitate to perfume your clothes, on which the scent will last longer, or to opt for a pure perfume that will be even more concentrated and therefore more intense than eau de parfum. Also be careful of temporary loss of smell caused by allergies or viruses, or a change in cosmetic products in your routine for example.
Finally, I concede that our samples come with a roll-on which is less practical than a spray for dosing and distributing the perfume. This may also explain the impression of lightness, which could disappear with your bottle as it is equipped with a spray.

We would have preferred it to be a love at first scent, but sometimes it takes a little time to fully discover a fragrance. Because the formula of ippi patchouli is made up of over 40% natural patchouli from Indonesia: it is generally the ingredient that stands out the most, along with tuberose, but the beauty and complexity of the fragrance mean that we all have a different perception of a scent. You are not the only one to notice the sweet note of this fragrance, while if you ask me for my opinion, for example, I don't particularly sense it (rather in ippi patchouli light with its praline note). Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about customs clearance fees: each country (outside the EU) has its own customs fees, and we can't do anything about them. The same goes for the VAT we have to pay. Declaring your parcel as a "gift" or "sample" would be illegal, and would put us in an awkward position as it is a commercial shipment. Please note that we only charge a €10 postage fee (which in reality costs us at least double) and that delivery is free in Switzerland for orders over €120. Your last order contained a bottle of the so pure perfume, while your first order was for our Discovery Pack, which contains samples of our eaux de parfum. You began by testing the sample of eau de parfum so, before ordering a bottle of pur parfum. Both versions have the same formula: the difference lies in their concentration of raw materials. As a result, the pur parfum is even more intense than the eau de parfum. Some customers may find slight olfactory nuances between eau de parfum and pur parfum: the latter being more concentrated, certain ingredients may stand out more than in eau de parfum. A slight olfactory difference can also be explained by the maceration time from one production to another. Hello Ann, and thank you for your feedback: in case of doubt it is always a good idea to ask and I see 2 explanations to your problem.
First is that we had to slightly modify SO's formula in 2021 to comply with a change of the European cosmetic regulation. We worked with our perfumer for months on the reformulation of SO with the main objective to respect its original scent. We managed to get very close but, despite our best efforts, we also find a discreet difference in the base note. We can join you on this.
Secondly, your feeling could also be explained by a simple fact: before your last order, the previous one dated back from 2020. If you are comparing your bottle from 2020 to your bottle from 2024, it is completely normal to find an olfactory difference between both. Indeed, perfumes naturally evolves over time, and become more intense, often more sweet too. The bottle purchased this year has been freshly produced, so it is normal if its perfume is not the same than the one from 2020. Give your new bottle some time and you will see how it evolves.
I hope this helps you to understand and explain your feeling: since 1988, we always intended to create beautiful fragrances, so be sure we never decreased the quality of our perfumes.

It's always a good idea to share your feelings Valérie, but we're very surprised because we can guarantee that your fragrance hasn't changed! You've known us all these years: we're very transparent about the way we work, and we would have informed you if we'd changed the formula of our fragrance. If you compare the bottle you ordered a few days ago with the last bottle you ordered on our site almost 2 years ago, it's normal to notice a difference, as the fragrance it contained had naturally evolved between the time you started it and the time you finished it. Your new bottle, freshly produced, allows you to rediscover the initial scent of your perfume, which will evolve over the coming months/years and become more intense, often sweeter, with time.
Note that our brains sometimes play tricks on us and can influence the perception we have of a fragrance, even when we think we know it by heart:
- Over time, and the longer we wear a fragrance, our brain tends to "fall asleep": as it becomes accustomed to a scent, we have the impression of no longer (or less) smelling our perfume. We may also have the impression that it has changed, as the brain may also discover other ingredients and new facets of the fragrance, less obvious to perceive at first.
- Some fragrances can also change color: in contact with air, light and temperature variations, the juice naturally oxidizes (more information here). The conditions under which a fragrance is stored in a bottle can therefore accelerate its "aging". Its scent won't change radically, but it will become more intense and mellower. For example, the freshly produced juice of our SO eau de parfum is translucent with a slight green tinge, but it will become darker and darker, until it is dark brown after a few months or years!
- Finally, we need to take into account the context in which we evolve: a change in skincare/beauty products, a hormonal evolution or the contraction of a virus (COVID or other) can explain a new perception of one's perfume for sometimes several months.

I can confirm that this fragrance does contain natural vanilla (from Madagascar, to be precise), but not only. You may not like the surrounding ingredients, particularly the caramel and almond notes.
