I think you are referring to the white bakelite socket. Indeed, the bakelite socket originally black was painted in white and then varnished. The paint remains fragile and at the slightest shock can leave small black spots, leaving the original color of the bakelite. Despite these small black chips, the white varnished socket remains a beautiful vintage product.
I am currently putting online a new range of lamps with the same type but with thermoplastic sockets, in a more modern spirit and with perfect finishes. The white socket is created from white granules, so the socket is white in its mass.
