First of all, it's important to determine whether the algae you have is cyanobacteria. Then, if the cyano is coming back regularly, it may be related to your stones (see the blog post about old tank syndrome at https://www.daphbio.fr/fr/blog/la-solution-au-syndrome-du-vieux-bac--n45).
