Balsa is a lightweight and very soft wood that has the advantage of absorbing impurities (tar) as well as potential condensation inside the pipe. Indeed, they are thinner on one side, which makes it easier to insert them into the pipe. First, wait for your pipe to be completely cold before disassembling it.
