I've been using self-adhesive and iron-on clothing labels regularly for 5 years now to mark my two children's belongings. The self-adhesive ones as soon as possible, when there's already a label on the garment, and the iron-on ones when there's no brand label. It takes 10 seconds of ironing, so you have to turn the iron on, but they're still very easy to stick on and hold up well over many washes.
