I purchased a 100g pack of matcha 50 powder, only to find the best-before date was just two weeks away. When I complained, the manager initially blamed Japanese standards, writing: “In Japan, these dates are often extremely conservative and relatively short compared to the actual shelf life.” But when I pushed back, their story completely changed. In a second email, they claimed it was actually a "labeling error" from last year: “The person responsible for preparing the labels indicated a shelf life of one year instead of two years… As a precaution, we will also relabel the few remaining packages from this batch.” Of course, I needed to pay for the shipping fee to return the product eventually.
