Unfortunately the hardware did not exactly match the description: Firewire/USB box not working in Firewire because of an obsolete chipset with non-upgradeable firmware Prolific PL3507. I discovered that this problem was known, many sites report it, among others http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=680852. A return has been proposed to me, but considering the price of the port/item, I give up.
